Tours on a Tankful

You can make Great Bend the heart of a vacation. You'll find special places to explore and sights to see within an easy drive from Great Bend. All of these adventures begin and end in Great Bend where you'll find comfortable, affordable hotel rooms, unique restaurants, traveler's services, and a charming shoppping district.

The Convention & Visitors Bureau publishes a magazine full of Great Bend based itineraries called Tours on a Tankful. Tours on a Tankful begin with Oil, Air, and Ornithology and continue through the Swedish community of Lindsborg, the intriguing underground tunnels of Ellinwood and many more small communities and beautiful rural landscapes. Then the Tours take you on a very special guided tour through all that Great Bend has to offer and a little bit of the history of the famous Santa Fe Trail. The Trail runs right through Great Bend's Courhouse Square and you'll want to stand where traders trudged toward a new world and a new life.

These are short tours, but you should take your time. Stop in a little coffee shop on Main Street or get out your binoculars and enjoy the wildlife at one of the refuges. Take pictures of your children at the B-29 Memorial in Great Bend or beside a Dala horse in Lindsborg. Chat with the storekeepers and the waitresses you encounter. Stop and listen to the geese honking as they fly over Cheyenne Bottoms. Listen very carefuly and what you'll really hear is America's heart beating strong right her in the middle of Kansas!
