We'll search for insects in the air, water, and ground and find the amazing diversity among these small but mighty creatures. Kids will make a cage for an insect specimen. Elisha Beck "A History of South Hoisington" , 7:30 p.m., Barton County Historical Society, Elisha completed a summer internship at Barton County Historical Society in 2006 while obtaining her Master's Degree from FHSU. Research on South Hoisington was one project to help fulfill her time with the Historical Society. Her interesting research is now part of the Historical Society's research library at the museum. Elisha was the curator at the Ellis County Historical Society in Hays for three years, but is now residing in McPherson. Since South Hoisington is no longer in Barton County, her presentation will be an opportunity to learn its history. If you are able to provide any other pieces of information, please attend the meeting. The Barton County Historical Society is south of the Arkansas River bridge on Highway 281. The program is free and everyone is cordially invited to attend. |

"Go Fishing "-Kansas Wetlands Education Center Summer Programs, "One Fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish" begins the familiar Dr. Seuss book that speaks to the immerse variety of fish. The most numerous of vertebrates, kids will investigate the different fish found in Cheyenne Bottoms and design a fish of their own. Cheyenne Bottoms Butterfly Quest, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Kansas Wetlands Education Center, Led by Pam Martin, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Environmental Educator, Participants will review butterfly species likely to be found in the area, then leave to stalk the elusive creatures for an official count. Maps and data sheets will be provided. Maximum limit of 30 people. Pre-registration deadline is July 28.
